Regardless of how good a remedy is, none will work properly if your skin surface is not properly hydrated.

Your skin needs to be supple for the remedies to work. Therefore, you will need to make sure that you drink enough water each dayenough water translates to between eight and ten glasses each day.

A skin surface that is hydrated not only helps in detoxifying your body, but it also helps in restoring the elasticity that had been lost.

Treat Stretch Marks With Fillers

Poly-L lactic acid and dilute calcium hydroxyapatite are bio stimulatory fillers that work by volumizing and stimulating collagen from within the scars, Chang explains. “They can be used in combination with resurfacing lasers, microneedling, or micro-focused ultrasound to improve the appearance and texture of stretch marks.”

After a Radiesse injection, you can expect pretty immediate volumizing effects, which isn’t the case with Sculptra, but both yield some of the longest-lasting filler results on the market. Sculptra typically lasts up to 24 months and Radiesse sustains for about 12.

These in-office stretch mark treatments will typically require multiple rounds and three to four months to see any major improvements as the body takes time to rebuild collagen, Chang notes. However, a study found significant improvement in the appearance of subjects’ stretch marks in as little as two months with a combined treatment of Radiesse filler, microneedling, and a topical vitamin C.

Ive been using Bio-Oil‘s Multi-Use Skincare Oil religiously on the scars that showed up after a surgery I had a few years ago. Its really effective, especially at such a low price tag. Somehow, I never thought to apply it to my stretch marks until now. It practically melts into your skin, with rich moisturizers to hydrate and nourish for hours post-application. The cult-favorite formula is blended with purcellin oil to make the product especially easy to absorb and lightweight to the touch.

Stretch Marks Saggy Skin & Excess Fat

As a certified personal trainer, I get asked many questions on a daily basis. However, three of the main things I get asked are:

  • How can I get rid of stretch marks?
  • How can I tighten up loose or saggy skin?
  • How do I get rid of excess fat?
  • Since I answer these questions so often on an individual basis, I figured I would write this blog for the masses of ladies out there who need it! Since stretch marks, loose skin, and fat are all separate issues, lets break them down one by one.

How can I get rid of stretch marks?

If you have had a baby, gained weight fast, or lost weight fast, chances are youve got your fair share of stretchies. I had stretch marks before I even had a baby due to weight gain from weightlifting and then weight gain from plaine ole eating fast food and neglect. The skin stretches so quickly that the collagen and elastic tissue are damaged, leading to the characteristic line-like appearance of the skin

However, a lot of people get them simply by growing as teenagers due to growth spurts. Before I go any further, let me tell you that is it normal and nothing to be ashamed of. However, so many women are.

I will be blunt-there is no way to make stretch marks completely disappear. Surgical interventions and laser treatments may help make them appear barely even there, but most DIY remedies will only lighten them up over time. Yes, time is your friend. Think of it as basically a scar-scars fade over time and your marks are no different. But again that is okay!

    Retinol Creams And Lotions

You’ll want to start thinking about stretch mark prevention and treatment before you get pregnant, as most of the products used for this purpose aren’t safe to use during pregnancy.

Retinol cannot be used while you are pregnant because of the risk for birth defects. Keep in mind that most inexpensive creams and lotions for treating stretch marks are made with vitamin A derivatives, which contain retinol.

After you give birth, you can start looking for products to reduce the stretch marks you developed while you were pregnant. Retinol is the ingredient that you are looking for in your over the counter creams and lotions. Retinol works by trying to stimulate collagen production.

Retinol is frequently found in face creams. While you can use face creams to treat stretch marks, it can be a more costly option because the products are designed to cover a smaller area.

It can take up to six weeks before you see the effect of retinol treatment on your stretch marks. The products can cost anywhere from $15 to $80 per bottle depending on the brand. If needed, a dermatologist may be able to prescribe a prescription form of retinol, Retin-A.

Ways To Treat Stretch Marks In Teenagers

Stretchmarks or striae on the skin occur when the skin gets overstretched due to rapid growth or weight gain. It is normal for teenage girls and boys to have stretch marks due to growth during puberty. Stretchmarks do not cause any harm or pain. But if your teen is concerned about the appearance of them on their skin, then you may make an appointment with a dermatologist.

Stretch marks can pop up all over the body, with the most common areas being the tummy, thighs and chest area. While some women are glad to show off their marks post-baby, others constantly search for treatments for stretch mark removal.

We spoke to Dr. Justine Hextall, Consultant Dermatologist at the Tarrant Street Clinic, for an explanation of why stretch marks appear and how to treat them. Read her tips below

“Stretch marks are triggered by a rapidity of growth and how that affects collagen,” says Dr. Hextall.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and it’s found in bones, muscles, tendons and skin. It’s essentially the substance that holds the body together and gives the appearance of bouncy, full, smooth skin. However, collagen production declines as you get older and can be literally over-stretched by rapid growth and weight gain.

Who Is At Risk For Stretch Marks

Everyone has the capacity to develop stretch marks, but those with extreme hormone levels or individuals with a family history of stretch marks may be more susceptible. I have heard many women call them their “tiger stripes,” a physical representation of just what their abdomen did to accommodate their growing baby.

Outside of pregnancy, many teens develop stretch marks during puberty in response to their growing and changing body. Extreme muscle building and fluctuations in body weight may also cause stretch marks to appear as the body contour changes. The prolonged use of some medications which can thin the skin, like corticosteroids, may also cause stretch marks to appear.

    Why Do Stretch Marks Appear

Our skin is a very interesting body organ. It acts as a barrier and protects us from harmful things. It also adapts to inner body changes.

Normally our skin is quite elastic, thanks to collagen and elastin. These proteins break when our skin stretches or shrinks very quickly.

As the skin heals, this causes stretch marks to appear, like scars.

Striae distensae is the Latin name given to stretch marks in general. Striae gravidarum refers specifically to stretch marks during pregnancy.

    What To Expect When Derma

I began the first session after thoroughly cleansing my skin and applying one of the GlowPro prep pads. Then I applied hyaluronic acid for some extra cushion. With gentle pressure , I rolled the derma-roller over my inner thighs about 10 times, changing direction with each pass. I continued for a minute and watched my inner thighs turn pink and flushed from the irritation. It’s normal and sounds much worse than it is. Then, I applied more hyaluronic acid serum and a firming body lotion. I went to bed anxiously awaiting my results come morning.

It’s recommended to reapply your hydrating serum and lotion within 60 seconds after the use of the derma-roller for maximum absorption.

Once the sun rose, I hopped out of bed and inspected my stretch marks. I didn’t see any reduction of texture or color, but I did notice the skin on my thighs seemed tighter and more toned. The results looked exactly like they do when I use a derma-roller on my facevisible but not life-changing.

    Prescriptions And Other Formulas

If youre not finding at-home remedies to be helpful, its a good idea to talk with your healthcare professional about prescription creams and gels.

There are synthetic forms of vitamin A, like tretinoin creams with concentrations greater than 0.05 percent, that have been proven to help improve striae gravidarum the pregnancy stretch mark by a significant degree.3

A recent study also found that a formula containing hydroxyprolisilane C, rosehip oil, Centella asiatica extract, and vitamin E reduced the risk of breast stretch marks during pregnancy by 30% if there was no history of stretch marks to date.4

Furthermore, certain topical creams can help boost collagen production and help hydrate your skin.

Again, talk to your doctor about the best cream to use and make sure youre presented with any potential side effects.

Deep stretch marks are almost always the product of pregnancy, no other circumstance induces such rapid skin stretching so intensely. While it is also possible to obtain them because of weight loss/gain and muscle growth, it is much rarer.

The problem with deeper stretch marks is that since they are so deeply ingrained in your skin, they are not as easy to remove. While the advice and steps are similar compared to usual scars, the chance of success is much lower if you use any of the cheaper alternatives.

What Are The Risks Of Surgery

An abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure, and with any surgical procedure, there are serious risks involved. Before undergoing a tummy tuck, the benefits should be seriously considered against the possible risks.

Superficially, tummy tuck surgery may cause scarring, so you may be exchanging stretch marks for surgery scars. Complications due to anesthesia administration during surgery, though rare, can result in nerve damage, brain damage, or even death. After surgery, there is a risk of developing blood clots, skin necrosis , infection, and fluid accumulation beneath the wound.

Full recovery from an abdominoplasty will take between three and six months, though most patients are able to return to work sometime between one and four weeks after the surgery is performed. Within 3-6 months, bruising and discoloration should disappear and scars from the surgery will heal and fade to white.

What Else Can I Do To Get Rid Of Teen Stretchmarks

As well as using Body Oil, you can try these other solutions for stretch marks in your teen years:

    • Microdermabrasion can help with stretchmarks but can be invasive.
    • Laser therapy can also help but, again, is invasive.
    • Vitamin E-rich foods can help the skin to recover, as can using it in a cream.
    • Cocoa butter and other ointments that keep the skin softened are all right treatments, too.

If you have tried all of the above and are still unhappy with your body, you can consider plastic surgery. We dont recommend this. If you try a body oil and stick with it for an extended period of time, you should find you get the same results that surgery might bring you. All it needs is enough time to work.

You never know, if you try the cream or oil for a few months, the stretchmarks might disappear entirely. Thats definitely something to think about before you rush off and spend a fortune on surgery.

    When To See A Doctor

You may consult a pediatric dermatologist if your teen is concerned about the appearance of the skin. It is also good to see a doctor if stretchmarks are accompanied by other conditions, such as rapid weight gain, skin bruising, etc. Doctors can help identify the cause and initiate the treatment for the underlying cause if required.

If you want to try one of these creams, lotions, or gels to fade stretch marks, be sure to:

    • Apply the product every day for weeks. If you see results, they take weeks to appear.
