Head To The Drugstore
Ive been using Bio-Oil‘s Multi-Use Skincare Oil religiously on the scars that showed up after a surgery I had a few years ago. Its really effective, especially at such a low price tag. Somehow, I never thought to apply it to my stretch marks until now. It practically melts into your skin, with rich moisturizers meant to hydrate and nourish for hours post-application. The cult-favorite formula is blended with purcellin oil meant to make the product especially easy to absorb and lightweight to the touch.
After rubbing it on my stretch marks for a week, I noticed a slight difference but not as much as a few of the other products I tried. After continued use, though, Im sure the coloring will being to fade more and more each time. Its an incredible option when youre not in a position to splurge, as it promises to fade scars, even skin tone, moisturize, and can even be used as an after-sun treatment and bath oil.
Rosehip To Help Stimulate Keratinocyte Production
In addition to moisturizing the skin, rosehip oil helped stimulate keratinocyte differentiation in a 2011 mouse study. Keratinocytes are tightly packed cells in your skins epidermis that produce keratin. Keratin helps strengthen the skin and stimulates collagen production.
Essential oils arent regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration . Its hard to know what youre buying.
You should only purchase oils from a manufacturer who:
- is willing to provide materials safety data sheets
- is well-known in the professional aromatherapy world
- varies the pricing of their oils according to oil type and rarity
- lists the country of origin and method of extraction at a minimum on the label
- doesnt add synthetic ingredients to their oils
Essential oils are potent and can irritate your skin. They must be diluted with a carrier oil before using on the skin.
The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy recommends these essential oil dilutions for adults:
- 2.5 percent dilution, or 15 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil
- 3 percent dilution, or 20 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil
- 5 percent dilution, or 30 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil
- 10 percent dilution, or 60 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil
Start with the lowest dilution once or twice daily. If it doesnt work and irritation doesnt occur try the next highest dilution and so on.

What Is A Stretch Mark
Stretch marks, also called striae are a form of scar that tend to form when a person goes through a time of quick growth or weight gain. They are common during growth spurts in teens, during pregnancy, or during quick weight gain.
Essentially, the skin becomes stretched too quickly and cant keep up with the growth and ends up tearing. This results in a type of long scar which can range in width. These are normal, and not a cause for concern, however, many people really dont like the way they look.
The biggest problem with stretch marks is that they can cause some stress and anxiety for the body conscious. Although I believe they are symbols of a life well-lived and should be appreciated.this is difficult for some young women and others who deeply care about their appearance.
Common areas on the body where stretch marks like to form include the breasts, abdomen, hips, thighs, and rear. These areas tend to be the most common areas because weight tends to settle here, especially with the fast growth of a baby during pregnancy.
There is really no way to repair a stretch mark, however, some treatments can help your skin heal or reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars quite significantly, sometimes altogether. AND, many of these remedies can be made right at home, like the recipe Im going to share below.
An example of stretch marks-

Stay Hydrated To Treat Pregnancy Stretch Marks
Were probably not the first to tell you how important it is to drink plenty of water. Its cliché, but its true! The water you drink provides your skin with the hydration necessary for it to remain healthy. When skin cells have an ample supply of water, theyre able to function properly and repair themselves more efficiently. This means your skin is better able to recover from pregnancy stretch marks. We suggest drinking at least eight cups of water every day to keep your skin cells healthy and hydrated!

Keep Your Skin Moisturized
Moisture is one of the most important components of a healthy skin care routine. It keeps your skin smooth and bright, helps maintain your skins protective outer layer, and preserves skin elasticity. As an added bonus, it helps heal stretch marks, too.
Medical professionals recommend choosing your skin care products carefully when youre still breastfeeding. Some moisturizers contain ingredients that may find their way into your breast milk. The effect of these ingredients on newborns is unknown, so its best to avoid using these skin care products altogether.
In particular, avoid Retinoid and products with Retinol, Retinol-A, or some other variant of this compound. Parabens are also unsafe. Always try to choose skin care products made from natural ingredients.
Using a hypoallergenic soothing cream, like Mustela’s Soothing Moisturizing Balm, in the morning and evening is an easy and effective way to ensure your skin is adequately moisturized. The healing cream uses powerful ingredients like ceramides to strengthen stretch-marked skin, alleviate itchiness, and boost elasticity.

Tummy Tuck With Liposuction
If you have issues with both excess fat and loose skin would be the perfect solution. Traditionally, tummy tucks do not deal with excess fat, they simply remove loose skin and repair structures under the skin . Liposuction removes excess fat and can help contour different parts of the abdomen. The two procedures go hand-in-hand and produce optimal results.

Laser Stretch Mark Removal Treatments
Laser treatments for stretch mark removal are done with a specialized system that stimulates the production of collagen, elastin, and other healthy skin proteins in the sub-dermal layers of the skin beneath the existing scar tissue. Repeated treatments will reduce the pinkish or reddish appearance of the stretch mark so that the new skin tissue will match your existing skin tone, as well as even the texture of the skin. For many patients, laser treatments for stretch marks almost work like a magic eraser your skin after several treatments will be as good as new.
What Can You Expect From Laser Stretch Mark Removal Treatments?
Like any other laser treatment, this treatment involves a specialized handheld tool that will be operated by one of our skilled skin specialists. The laser system will be pressed briefly to each patch of the stretch marks to deliver a powerful combination of thermal heat and light wavelengths that penetrate the deeper layers of the skin to kick-start your bodys natural regenerative properties.
For most patients, treatments will take about 30 minutes to complete unless you are treating multiple areas of the body at one time. This treatment is not painful and will not cause any harm to the surrounding skin tissue, which is why our laser treatment is so compatible with patients of all skin tones and types. This type of laser treatment is an appropriate option for both new and old stretch marks.

Stretch Marks Causes And Risk Factors
Stretch marks happen when your body grows quickly for any reason. Your skin canât stretch enough to keep up.
Collagen is a protein that makes your skin more elastic. If your skin doesnât have enough, the marks may show up as it stretches.
You may get stretch marks because of:
-
Quick weight gain
-
Childhood growth spurts during puberty. Make sure kids know this is normal and that childhood marks may fade as they get older.
-
Pregnancy as a result of stretched skin and a surge in hormones that weakens skin fibers. They might fade as you shed pounds after the baby is born.
-
Bodybuilding, even those who have little fat can get them where their muscles bulge
-
High amounts of steroids, either from steroid medications or illnesses like Cushing’s syndrome
-
, a genetic disease that weakens your skin fibers and causes unusual growth
-
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome , a group of conditions that result from genetic changes to collagen, a protein in your body
They also run in families.

So What Makes A Good Stretch Mark Cream
To help minimize the appearance of the stretch marks that you already have, Dyer notes the healing ingredients you’ll want to look for in effective stretch-mark prevention creams include vitamin A and vitamin E, along with cocoa, shea, and/or jojoba butters. Vitamin A helps the healing process and also assists with collagen production and pigmentation. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that is thought to help with wound healing. Cocoa, shea, and jojoba butters are thick, well-tolerated moisturizers that penetrate deeply into the skin, helping to keep it supple and healthy.
Dyer has personally used Burts Bees Belly Butter and Bio-Oil during her pregnancy, and has said she’s had zero stretch marks. Dyer also says you should use products that contain hyaluronic acid, which can tighten the skin and reduce inflammation to improve skin texture and help fade stretch marks over time.

How Can I Treat Stretch Marks
The best treatment for stretch marks is to keep your skin well hydrated. Skin that is moisturized and supple has more elasticity and can rebound better. There are several natural and cosmetic options that can help make stretch marks less visible. The most common treatments are over-the-counter topical creams or oils.
The Mederma® portfolio contains an over-the-counter treatment for stretch marks and a cosmetic multi-use oil including for stretch marks. Mederma® Stretch Marks Therapy cream is an intensive stretch mark cream bringing together ingredients including dimethicone, onion extract , hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica extract in a unique triple action formula. This special formula has been proven to increase the moisture content of your skin, thereby improving its softness and texture as well as the appearance of the stretch marks. The Mederma® Quick Dry Oil is a multi-use product for various blemishes such as scars, stretch marks or uneven skin tone which blends Cepalin® with complex oils, botanicals and other moisturizing and soothing ingredients.
If a topical product is still not enough, you may consult your dermatologist to discuss more drastic solutions, such as laser, radio and ultrasound therapy.
Can Anything Prevent Stretch Marks
Short answer: Maybe.
Researchers have discovered that many remedies said to prevent stretch marks dont actually work. In studies, neither almond oil, cocoa butter, olive oil, nor vitamin E prevented stretch marks.
Other ingredients may work. Researchers have found that products containing centella or hyaluronic acid may help prevent stretch marks. Centella is an herb, and our skin naturally contains hyaluronic acid.

Are Essential Oils Safe To Use During Pregnancy
It makes sense that if youre trying to prevent stretch marks youd use essential oils while pregnant. But theres little research on the safety of topical essential oils during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Its unclear how much essential oil is absorbed by the skin and how it may impact your baby.
Until more research is done, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding shouldnt use essential oils unless under the supervision of a doctor or qualified natural health practitioner.
The most common side effect of using topical essential oils is allergic reaction. Allergic reaction symptoms may include:
To reduce your risk of side effects, you should only use professional quality essential oils and you should always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil.
Lemon oil and other citrus oils may make you more sensitive to the sun and cause rash or sunburn. You should avoid direct sunlight for at least 24 hours after using citrus oils.
Not enough research has been done on the topical use of bitter almond oil to determine its safety, so talk to your doctor before use.
Dont use essential oils with topical medications unless under the supervision of your doctor or a qualified natural health practitioner.

What Is Loose Skin On Stomach
The skin is the largest organ in the body. If a person gains weight, the skin expands to cover the new area. Then, if the weight is reduced, the skin retracts again.
However, the longer that weight is retained, the more likely that the elastin fibres responsible for the skins elasticity will be pushed too far and become damaged. This prevents the fibres from retracting properly, resulting in excess skin.
