There are a number of reasons why the stomach and bowel may be inflamed, including excessive or prolonged stress, eating a high-sugar diet, eating processed foods with sugar and preservatives, dehydra

What causes stomach/ bowel inflammation? How to treat it?

There are a whole bunch of microbes that live in the human gut and some of these microbes can create inflammation. Dysbiosis is a term for an unbalanced microbial community or something else going on with the gut microbiome, and itâs been associated with many inflammatory bowel conditions like Crohnâs disease and ulcerative colitis. Antibiotics and other medications can change the gut microbiome â if they kill off too many good guys, bad guys will take over. High sugar diets also feed some bacteria that cause inflammation since those bacteria thrive under those conditions. Stress is another factor stress hormones can increase intestinal permeability .

Inflammation of the stomach can be caused by a number of different things. Acute inflammation of the stomach is known as gastritis and is notoriously short-lived with medical therapy. Chronic inflammation can lead to ulcers or tumors in the lining of the stomach, known as peptic ulcer disease and adenocarcinoma respectively. Chronic stomach inflammation might also be a PIDA!

Stomach pain is the result of increased intra-abdominal pressure caused by

1) overactive muscle contractions of the stomach,

2) slow or infrequent passage of gas due to obstruction or ileus.

If Your Gastritis Is Caused By An Anti

If possible, you should stop the anti-inflammatory medicine. This allows the gastritis to heal. You will also normally be prescribed an acid-suppressing medicine for several weeks. This stops the stomach from making acid and allows the gastritis to heal. However, in many cases the anti-inflammatory medicine is needed to ease symptoms of joint inflammation or other painful conditions, or aspirin is needed to protect against blood clots. In these situations, one option is to take an acid-suppressing medicine each day indefinitely. This reduces the amount of acid made by the stomach and greatly reduces the chance of gastritis forming again.

S To Take To Heal Your Stomach Naturally

  • Evaluate your diet and how you feel after eating certain foods. Do you feel an increase in pain or stomach acid after eating or drinking certain foods? I used to have a pop every afternoon and within a 1/2 hour I would have a physical ache in my stomach. It helps to document what youre eating and when you feel changes in how you feel so you can pinpoint if its always after eating something specific.
  • Cut out common trigger foods. For some people this is coffee, chocolate, soda, high sugar foods, acidic fruits, tomato based products , spicy foods, etc.
  • Give your body a healing time. When you first change your diet, give your body a healing time. This may be a few weeks, months, or longer, but look at each food youre eating and ask yourself this, Is this bringing true nourishment and healing to my body?
  • Slowly reintroduce foods, one at a time. After you feel your body is healed, you may wish to try certain foods again like I did with coffee and chocolate. Youll still want to find healthier versions if at all possible and only bring back one food at a time. Again, document how you feel after eating it. Many people suggest trying the same food several times in a row to see if you have a reaction before introducing another.

  • Eat whole, unprocessed foods. Make sure to include plenty of fiber from foods like vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains.
  • Eliminate food allergies. If you think you have food sensitivities, try an elimination diet. Cut out gluten, dairy, yeast, corn, soy, and eggs for a week or two and see how your gut feels and what happens to your other symptoms.
  • Treat any infections or overgrowth of bugs. Parasites, small bowel bacteria, and yeasts can all inhibit proper gut function. You must treat these infections if you want to heal.
  • Replenish your digestive enzymes. When you dont have enough digestive enzymes in your gut, you cant properly convert the foods you eat into the raw materials necessary to run your body and brain. Take broad-spectrum digestive enzymes with your food to solve the problem.
  • Rebuild your rain forest of friendly bacteria. Take probiotic supplements. They will help you rebuild the healthy bacteria so essential to good gut health.
  • Get good fat. Take extra omega-3 supplements, which help cool inflammation in the gut.
  • Heal your gut lining. Use gut-healing nutrients such as glutamine and zinc to repair the lining in your gut so it can resume its normal function.
  • Fixing your digestion may take some time, but it can be done. And it is absolutely essential if you want to achieve vibrant health. So work on your inner tube of life using the steps above and watch as your symptoms disappear.

    Who Might Get Gastritis

Acute Gastritis (Stomach Inflammation) | Causes, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Your risk of developing gastritis goes up with age. Older adults have thinner stomach linings, decreased circulation and a slower metabolism of mucosal repair. Older adults are also more likely to be on medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that can cause gastritis. About two-thirds of the worlds population is infected with H. pylori. Fortunately, it is less common in the United States. In the United States, H. pylori is found more often in older adults and lower socioeconomic groups.

    What Is Chronic Gastritis

Chronic gastritis is a condition that occurs when your stomach lining becomes inflamed. Unlike acute gastritis, in which irritation appears quickly in the stomach lining, chronic gastritis develops gradually and can be more difficult to get rid of.

Chronic gastritis usually gets better with treatment, but may need ongoing monitoring. Long-term inflammation can become erosive, wearing away at your stomach lining and leading to further medical issues.

    What Else Might It Be

Dont assume that stomach pain is always a sign of gastritis the pain could be caused by a wide range of other things, such as a non-ulcer dyspepsia, duodenal ulcer, stomach ulcer or irritable bowel syndrome. See the separate leaflet called Abdominal Pain.

What To Eat To Improve The Lining Of Your Stomach

Most people are exposed toand partaking indecadent and rich foods all times of the year. Plus, chronic stress can also cause a weak gut lining. So how do you get it back or is there any way you can repair or fix the linking of your stomach after years of eating badly? The answer to that question comes after knowing what bad stomach lining can cause.

For your gastrointestinal system to function properly it must be able to absorb the nutrients from your food to distribute them to your blood stream. When you have a leaky gut it means that the lining of your GI tract has been compromised and isnt able to do its job appropriately. This literally means that your nutrients and predigested foods can leak into your bodytriggering inflammation but also causing hormone imbalances. Hormones, after all are packaged and broken down in the gut as well. Leaky gut is not recognized conventionally but your doctor may have referred to it as malabsorption or increased intestinal permeabilitity.

Some people pair glutamine with a shot of apple cider vinegar. This is a great way to keep your guts microbiome balanced, which aids digestion and also gives your immune system a boost. Just mix 1 tablespoon organic raw apple cider vinegar with 3 tablespoons water.

Your GP can usually make a diagnosis of gastritis by taking a history of your symptoms and an examination of your tummy . Mild gastritis does not usually need any tests.

If gastritis doesn’t get better quickly or causes severe pain then your GP will arrange tests. Your GP may arrange blood tests, including a test for anaemia, as gastritis occasionally causes some bleeding from your stomach lining.

Gastroscopy is the test that can confirm gastritis. In this test a doctor looks inside your stomach by passing a thin, flexible telescope down your gullet . They can see any inflammation or if there is any other abnormality, such as a stomach ulcer.

Small samples are usually taken of the stomach lining during endoscopy. These are sent to the laboratory to be looked at under the microscope. This also checks for cancer .

A test to detect the H. pylori germ may also be done. H. pylori can be detected in a sample of stools , or in a ‘breath test’, or from a blood test, or from a biopsy sample taken during an endoscopy. See the separate leaflet called Helicobacter Pylori for more details.

Having a barium swallow and X-ray is another way to look for changes in the stomach lining. It is not as accurate as an endoscopy.
