Summer can be a little challenging when it comes to putting outfits together especially if you are someone who uses clothes to simply hide your body. One of the most common challenges is hiding a muffin top. Keep in mind that anyone can have a muffin top regardless of your size.

I am currently 3 months postpartum and I havent been shopping yet so taking photos for this specific blogpost wearing clothing that doesnt really bring out my confidence was a bit challenging.

    Many of us want to hide tummy fat but first of all let’s clarify where the ‘tummy’ is.

    If you have a recognizable waist, which probably means that you have Curved Hips then the bit below your waist is what is considered to be your ‘tummy’.

    However slim you are if you have an Hourglass or Pear shaped body, then you can always expect to have a slightly rounded tummy area because you are a curvy lady!

    Blouses For Visual Tummy Loss

    To safely hide the belly, choose long-cut shirts and blouses. Exclude from your wardrobe all that ends on the waistline and before it.

    Choose free-cut shirts, with a light drape from the chest line, or slightly flared silhouettes. T-shirts and sweaters should not be tight. Avoid tight shirts and blouses strung buttons look ugly.

    In the first image below I am wearing a tight t-shirt and I almost have a muffin top and my belly is visible . So I am sure the blouses in the other three images are more suitable to hide my belly.

    Blouses and T-shirts with a tied hemband just below the waist look very good. As in the case of a dress, the overlap masks the stomach and sides, without making the whole image larger. This option is better suited for straight pants and skirts and is wonderfully combined with jeans and short pants.

    Do not exclude all kinds of decorative layering, also twinsets, shirts, and capes worn over the tops and T-shirts. The layering slims and distracts from shortcomings because it has double the layers.

    Consider patterns with peplums or pleats starting from the waistline.

    Try to shift the focus to other parts of your body: for example, wear a blouse with a décolleté, or pay special attention to shoes and accessories to distract from your belly. If you have a beautiful bust, neckline, and cellulite-free arms, you might want to accentuate these parts of your body with embroidery, applique, nice trims, decorative accents, buttons, collars, etc.

Theres so much disparity in sizes on the high street, so please dont be disheartened if your usual size doesnt work. Nothing makes your stomach look worse than half of it spilling over the top of your trousers.

    For those whose problem area is their thighs, look for wide-leg trousers as theyll help balance out your proportions, as opposed to skinny or tapered legs that will accentuate and make you look apple-shaped. Also, shorter ladies dont be disheartened if your trousers are too long, as most good dry cleaners will have an alteration service. Mine does hems for about £15. Worth it if youre going to get the best use out of your strides.

    Not everyone will gain weight on their tummy – it depends on your Body Type.

    If you have curved hips extra weight will be stored on your tummy, hips and thighs. So you are most likely to want to hide tummy fat if you are a Pear Shape or an Hourglass.

If you have a stomach, consider this first when buying clothes.

    Ensure that the clothes you wear have enough ease along the waistline. It is very off-putting and shows your stomach prominently even to those who did not intend to notice that. Buy tops, shirts and dresses with a wider waistline or buy a bigger size and get it tailored to fit on other places.

    That doesnot mean you have to buy loose baggy out of shape clothes. Fitting clothes is most important for a person with a big tummy than for any other. Remember Not too tight nor too loose.
