Why Is My Stomach So Big

Coeliac Disease Aka Gluten

Why is My Stomach So Big in First Trimester?

Could be the cause if: You often feel tired youve lost weight for no apparent reason you are suffering from abdominal pain.

Coeliac disease is an adverse reaction to gluten, which is found in wheat, barley and rye and all foods containing them everything from pasta and bread to pies and some gravies and sauces.

It is an autoimmune condition where the body mistakes substances in gluten for a threat and attacks them, leading to damage to the surface of the small bowel, which then affects your ability to absorb nutrients from food.

It used to be mainly diagnosed in children, but its now known people can go undiagnosed into middle age.

If you have these symptoms, see your doctor and ask to have a blood test for coeliac disease. National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines state that anyone with bloating and other IBS-type symptoms should be tested for it.

If youre diagnosed, youll feel better once you start avoiding all foods containing gluten.

For more information about it visit www.coeliac.org.uk.

Could be the cause if: You are premenstrual or in the early stages of pregnancy.

During pregnancy, and just before your period, levels of the hormone progesterone are raised.

This can slow down gut motility or movement, which means food passes more slowly through the body, leading to bloating and possibly constipation.

You can beat the bloat. Exercise can help improve gut motility and walking for 30 minutes a day could be enough to make the difference.

Changing Fat Cell Type

One particular area of menopausal weight gain popped up in my search for answers recently: Changing fat cell type.

According to the two 2015 studies found, bone marrow in a womans body is more apt to produce cell-derived fat cells than in a mans body. Thats not good news for us.

Science just so happens to suggest that estrogen is the main culprit behind this fact because of the fat cells production drastically increasing with age.

The fat cells are more common in a womans body plus a womans age increases production that process equals weight gain for us.

As my research on the changing fat cell type went on, I found that the specific bone marrow produced cell, in turn, produces cytokines. Whats worse is that cytokines inhibit insulin sensitivity almost automatically, increasing the risk for Type II diabetes and additional weight gain.

My Stomach Makes Me Look Pregnant

I have been having problems with my stomach for quite a while now.My stomach is always round and bloated ,as if i am pregnant.I have pain most days and have severe cramps and vaginal muscle cramps/contractions during my period. I also bleed a lot.I eat healthy, take multivitamins and drink water and no sodas or fruit drinks just fruits and veggies. I know most people have flatter stomachs even those who dont eat as well as me.I have done research and have come to some conclusions that could fit. I think i might have a uterine fibroid or cyst, something that is making my stomach big.I also have ugly stretchmarks even though i have never been pregnant and am not pregnant, but at times it looks like it.If anyone has anything similar or knows anything,i would really appreciate the feedback.

Being constantly bloated can also be a sign of ovarian cancer. Since being bloated is so common in women, its hard to diagnose it.

Surprising Facts About Your Stomach

When it comes to the tummy, experts say myths abound. How much do you really know about your stomach?

From those burning, churning feelings that erupt whenever we eat our favorite foods, to the bloating that keeps us from zipping up our jeans, to the gas that can make us the most unpopular person in the elevator, our stomach can be the cause of some major inconveniences, if not some outright health concerns.

Still, experts say most folks know painfully little about how their stomach and their digestive tract operates — one reason that solving tummy troubles can seem much harder than it has to be.

“There are some very popular misconceptions concerning stomach health, most of which can really lead people astray on how to effectively deal with certain problems,” says Mark Moyad, MD, director of preventive and alternative medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.

David Greenwald, MD, agrees. “Sometimes what seems like a complex, difficult or even frightening problem really is a simple one, with a simple solution, if you can separate the myths from the facts,” says Greenwald, an associate professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York City.

Stay Hydrated At All Times

Letâs start with the basics, as when you are not drinking enough fluids, your body automatically retains water to prevent dehydration. So, by maximising your fluid intake and drinking at least six, eight-ounce glasses of liquid each day, you can remain hydrated and prevent the retention of water. Just be selective about the drinks that you consume, with the best bet being to focus on water and avoid sugary or artificially flavoured drinks.

Eating More Refined Carbohydrates

Maybe you arent eating a lot of extra calories, but your diet quality is changing. It can be easy to let loose on your food choices after a few weeks of making healthy food choices.

Keep in mind, even if your calorie counter says youre at about the same calories, the type of calories you consume can affect weight gain.

Gaining weight around the mid-section is a concern for increasing risk for many diseases.

Therefore, if your stomach is getting bigger from a gain of fat mass, its important you address it.

Increasing intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, like white bread, sweets and chips can promote fat storage.

If your weight loss journey started off with weight loss and now you find your stomach expanding from fat mass, get back on track with your food intake and healthy lifestyle. It could be that extra treats are sneaking into your routine.

Myth Or Fact: One Way To Reduce Acid Reflux Is To Lose As Little As 2 To 3 Pounds

Why Is My Pregnant Belly So Big On Top

Answer: Fact. “The less acid that flows back up into your esophagus, the fewer problems you will have clearing it. And believe it or not, losing just 2 pounds of weight from the abdominal area can make a difference — and pregnancy is about the best example of this,” says Moyad. As the baby grows and pushes against the internal organs, heartburn increases but once the baby is born and the pressure is relieved, the heartburn is, too. “In much the same way, losing even a little bit of belly fat can provide similar relief.

The really good news: Moyad says most people lose weight in the belly area first, so you should see some positive results on your heartburn within a few weeks after starting a weight loss plan.

I Only Have A Poo Once A Week

Michelle Nixon, 37, of Morden, Surrey, works for a medical device firm and is a married mum of two.

Abdomen exam: Normal

Diagnosis: Chronic constipation

Michelle says: Ive suffered from constipation for as long as I can remember and only open my bowels once every seven days.

Ive tried several laxatives, which do help me go to the loo more often.

My diet is fairly healthy, although I probably dont drink enough fluids during the day and my exercise levels could be better. The problem does worry me.

Mr Wests assessment: Michelle has no red flag symptoms that could indicate cancer.

Her weight and appetite are normal and she has no family history of bowel conditions.

She simply has idiopathic chronic constipation, due to a sluggish digestive system.

It would be worth having a blood test to check her thyroid levels, as constipation is a classic sign of hypothyroidism when the body doesnt produce enough of the thyroid hormone.

The prescription laxative Dulcolax can help her. Exercise is also important, as is drinking plenty of fluids.

What Are The Causes

Excessive inner-abdominal pressure causes diastasis recti. During pregnancy, your abdominal muscles and connective tissues are stretched out from your expanding uterus. Theyre helped along by the pregnancy hormones relaxin and estrogen. Pushing during delivery can also lead to diastasis recti. Experiencing some abdominal separation during and following pregnancy is expected.

In the past, body mass index , weight gain during pregnancy, weight of the baby, and maternal age were considered risk factors. But a 2015 study found no connection between these factors and pregnant women being more or less likely to experience the condition.

Newborn babies are sometimes born with diastasis recti, especially if theyre premature. Thats because their abdominal muscles arent fully developed and connected. The condition usually corrects itself with time.
