After the procedure, you and your driver, will receive some early results of the procedure. Often, the physician who did your procedure will be the one to discuss the results.

Many times biopsies or samples are sent to the pathology lab for microscope studies. These results are usually back to the physician in a week. The physician will call or mail you a letter with the results the following week. Therefore, if you do not hear back from the doctor within two weeks of your procedure, you should call your physicians office.

Ask About Your Medications

You may need to stop taking some of your medications before your procedure. Talk with your doctor about which medications are safe for you to stop taking. We have included some common examples below.

Anticoagulants

If you take a blood thinner, such as to treat blood clots or to prevent a heart attack or stroke, ask the doctor who prescribes it for you when to stop taking it. Examples are listed in the Common anticoagulants table. There are others, so check with your doctor if youre not sure.

Medications for diabetes

If you take insulin or other medications for diabetes, you may need to change the dose. Ask the doctor who prescribes your diabetes medication what you should do the day before and the morning of your procedure. Tell your doctor you will be drinking a sugar-free clear liquid diet the day before your procedure.

If you take metformin or a medication that contains metformin , dont take it the day before or the day of your procedure.

How Often Should You Drink Miralax

How to use Miralax 17 Gram Oral Powder Packet. Take by mouth usually once daily, or as directed by your doctor or the directions on the product package. If you are prescribed the individual packets, mix the powder as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.

How Can I Clean Out My Colon Overnight

The recipe: add two tablespoons of non-iodized salt to a quart of warm water. You sip the salt water on an empty stomach, with the goal to drink the whole thing in less than 5 minutes. Theres usually a charge for this service, and youll need to provide transportation. Its OK to use a taxi or car service, but you must still have a responsible care partner with you.

Polyethylene glycol 3350 comes as a powder to be mixed with a liquid and taken by mouth. It is usually taken once a day as needed for up to 2 weeks. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take polyethylene glycol 3350 exactly as directed.

Polyethylene glycol 3350 may be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or take it for a longer period of time than your doctor tells you to.

It may take 2 to 4 days for polyethylene glycol 3350 to produce a bowel movement.

Your MSK doctors office must have your clearance letter at least 1 day before your procedure.

What Other Information Should I Know

Keep all appointments with your doctor.

Do not let anyone else take your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements. You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies.

• tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking polyethylene glycol 3350, call your doctor.

Days Before Your Procedure

Dont start your clear liquid diet until the day before your procedure if you:

• Arent usually constipated
• Dont take narcotic medications
• Havent had a colonoscopy with poor prep in the past

Avoid raw fruits and vegetables, whole kernel corn, grains, seeds, and nuts. Skip to the next section The Day Before Your Procedure.

If youre usually constipated, take narcotic medications, or have had a colonoscopy with a poor prep in the past:

• Take 1 capful of MiraLAX mixed with 8 ounces of liquid at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
• Follow a full liquid diet. On a full liquid diet, you may eat and drink the following:
• Yogurt
• Fruit juices without pulp
• Broth or cream soups that have been strained so there are no vegetable pieces
• Nutritional supplements
• Ice cream and fruit ices

Not all potential uses for MiraLAX are recommended.

MiraLAX for weight loss

Some people take laxatives, including MiraLAX, with the hope of losing weight. However, MiraLAX and other laxatives are not effective for weight loss. In addition, they may cause harmful side effects if theyre used inappropriately. These can include diarrhea, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalances.

If you would like to lose weight, dont use MiraLAX for that purpose. Instead, talk to your doctor about weight-loss approaches that can work well for you.

What Happens If You Take Too Much Colace

The maximum adult dose of Colace is 400mg daily either as one dose or in divided doses. It sounds as though you are suffering from chronic constipation. Have you talked to your doctor about this? Start Your Bowel Preparation

Step 1: At 4:00 pm on the day before your procedure, take 2 bisacodyl tablets by mouth with a glass of water.

Step 2: At 4:15 pm, start drinking the MiraLAX mixture.

You will drink 4 glasses of the mixture in total.

• When youre finished, half of the MiraLAX mixture will be left. Save the rest of it in the refrigerator for the second half of your preparation.
• Bowel movements usually begin within 1 hour of drinking the first dose, but it may take longer for some people.
• Dont worry if you dont start having bowel movements after drinking the first half of the MiraLAX. Continue to drink liquids and start the second half of the MiraLAX as instructed.

Step 3 :

If you were told to arrive for your procedure before 11:00 am, follow these instructions the night before your procedure:

At 11:00 pm, take 2 bisacodyl tablets by mouth with a glass of water. Then, start drinking the second half of the MiraLAX mixture.
