What Is Blood Clots
To stop bleeding when an injury occurs, platelets along with a complex system of proteins called the “coagulation cascade,” are activated to start the formation of blood clots when an injury occurs.
Cancer can cause the coagulation cascade to be active even when there is no injury present. These clots most commonly form in the large veins of the arms or legs and can break off and travel to the lungs , heart , or brain .
Medications can decrease the risk of a harmful clot from forming. When an unwanted blood clot does form, medications need to be given to stop the clot from getting bigger while your body breaks down the existing clot. These medications either slow down the activity of proteins in the coagulation cascade or decrease the amount of clotting factor proteins in the blood.

Importance Of Taking Rivaroxaban 15 Mg And 20 Mg Tablets With Food
Clinical trials of rivaroxaban showed that food intake does not affect absorption of 2.5 mg or 10 mg tablets, while absorption of 20 mg tablets was optimal when taken with high-fat, high-calorie meal. For this reason, rivaroxaban 15 mg and 20 mg tablets are to be taken with food.
MHRA has received a small number of reports of patients taking rivaroxaban 15 mg or 20 mg who experienced a thromboembolic event, which the reporter suspected was due to the patient taking the tablets on an empty stomach.
The section of the Patient Information Leaflet for rivaroxaban 15 mg and 20 mg tablets that advises patients how to take their medicine has been revised to emphasise patients must take rivaroxaban with a meal and the tablets should be swallowed preferably with water.

Keep Your Md Updated On Lifestyle Changes
Your lifestyle will play a role in your doctor’s decision to prescribe blood thinners or not. Most people who take a blood thinner on an empty stomach at the same time every day and follow a relatively stable diet will do fine, Dr. Garcia says. But he also recommends drinking alcohol only in moderation. Binge drinking could cause drastic fluctuations in how long it takes your blood to clot, and could also lead to falls or accidents, which could increase the risk of blood thinner side effects, like excessive bleeding. Elderly people who live alone are at increased risk for falling and injuring themselves, so blood thinners may not be right for them. Instead, Garcia says, doctors may recommend an aspirin.
